TOGETHER WE ARE POWERFUL!!
Fighting for Members, servicing the School Board of Polk County
Since 1936, AFSCME has represented the workers of America in a wide variety of issues. Through the years AFSCME has established rights and fought for laws that protect the working class. Today we are fighting against privatization and other attempts to cut our rights, reduce our benefits, and abolish our jobs. It is through teamwork that we will defend the people who keep this country running.

In remembrance of Peggy.....
It is with a heavy heart, that we have received news that Peggy Morey has passed away.
Peggy was most currently serving as a Custodian at Elbert Elem. She served at several different schools while working at the Polk County School Board. She was an active AFSCME 2227 Union Member, who also served as Vice President of Custodial Services as recently as this past Spring. A strong desire to help her fellow Custodians brought out her tenacity and unbreakable spirit, as she fought tirelessly to improve their lives through better working conditions…….regardless of who’s toes she stepped on. She continued to be involved in Custodial issues well after she left office.
An extremely caring person, Peggy had a passion for helping all people in all facets of her life, every day she would feed the stray cats that lingered around whichever school she was working at and always went out of her way to say hello or just to ask you how your day was going.
Peggy did not talk about her blood family often, and had none known locally, as she was originally from Pennsylvania. She did however, have a large “Family” locally…. of friends, acquaintances, and co-workers that loved her dearly.
We do not wish to cloud her memory with the circumstances in which she left this world, but to cherish the memories and spirit of such a Human Being filled with such love, that was taken much to soon.
You will be loved today, tomorrow, and forever, for the many lives you have touched on this Earth.
AFSCME 2227 is currently coordinating fund raising efforts to help with Peggy’s final arrangements, and to help family with any additional expenses. We will also be assisting in collection of donations after this Saturday’s Membership Meeting. Feel free to contact us for additional information.

All Contracts Ratified...
This past Saturday, November 16th, 2019, Employees of the PCSB that are represented by AFSCME2227 cast their ballots to Ratify all three Bargaining Agreements.
The tallies were as follows:
Yellow Book..............26 Yes - 2 No
Lime Book...................3 Yes - 0 No

Thank you to everyone that attended and cast their vote.
The main issues that passed were a one year Pay and Health Insurance Freeze. The Agreements still have to be approved by our elected School Board Members, which we expect to happen.
